The purpose of this paper is to define, diagnose, and explore different treatment methods for children with learning disabilities. By considering various empirical studies conducted by researchers, the neurologically based processing disorder will be explored. Children diagnosed with learning disabilities can achieve academic success when they receive overall support from medical professionals, educators, parents, and society. Quite simply, children learn in different ways despite factors associated with their level of intelligence. A review of these significant research studies will substantiate that academic and personal achievements are achievable with the appropriate classification and recommended treatments. Learning disabilities†¦show more content†¦Professionals and teachers work together to collect information regarding student performance and discuss the results with the school to develop strategies that will support learning in the classroom (Cortiella Horowitz, 2 014). Researchers, Irene Mammarella and Cesare Cornoldi (2014) utilized diagnostic measures to identify children with nonverbal learning disabilities. The assessment for learning disabilities includes cognitive, physical, and psychological aspects. The diagnostic measures employed consisted of socio-emotional skills, visuo-spatial memory tasks, visuo-constructive and fine motor coordination skills, low visuo-spatial intelligence, and discrepancy between verbal and visuo-spatial intelligence, as well as reading along with mathematical success. Mammarella and Cornoldi assessed literature collected from 35 empirical studies in order to assess the results of effect size of diagnostic measures. Generally, the results revealed that the most significant standard for recognizing children with nonverbal learning disabilities includes low visuo-spatial intelligence with moderately good verbal intelligence, good reading decoding and low math performance, and visuo-constructive and fine-motor c oordination impairments. Furthermore, deficits in social skills and visuo-spatial memory were shown as well.
